Friends Walk - Support fot the Hurting in Washington County

Each fall since 2011 Time Out for Moms council members have partnered with Good Shepherd Lutheran School to reach out to the hurting in our community. Family and friends pledge their support through monetary gifts. In return, the children, teachers, and chaerpones walk on a Friday afternoon to provide funding for Friends of Abused Families of Washington County. We have requested that these funds be used toward the art therapy program for the children entering the shelters with their parents.
Children, teachers, parents, pastors, council members, representatives from Friends along with volunteers from Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School walk the beautiful Eisenbahn Trail for about an hour. Their joyful voice raise in song before the walk. Their joyful cheers fill the air when they return. The roar is deafening as the donation thermometer reveals the toal amounts raised for the year, in addition to culmulative totals over the life of the Friends Walk. Tie blankets made by the upper grade students and care bags made by the primary grades are displayed. These bags are sent off with the Friends' representatives to distribute to their patrons in the future.

Over $19,000 has been raised by the children. Every dollar has been given to Friends. We praise God for this opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the hurting in our community!

Parents of children are welcome to walk or to chaperone. NOTE: We remind parents and volunteers that they need to take the "Volunteer Training" class prior to the day, whether they walk or chaperone.
